8 Christopher

 BROOKBANKS 1655-1700

m Isabella c1685

Christopher was born in 1655 in the village of Hanley Castle in Worcestershire and became a yeoman farmer like his father.

He married Isabell about 1685 and they baptised seven children at Madresfield between 1686 and 1699.  From at least 1693 however they were living at Powick, some 3 miles away.  In that year, Christopher was the parish overseer of the poor.

Christopher died in 1700 aged 45 and was buried in his birthplace of Hanley Castle.  An inventory of his goods totalled £213 including cows sheep horses grain hay etc as well as his household goods.

Isabel probably remarried in 1702

BIRTH

No record identifies the birth date of Christopher, but he began to baptise children at Madresfield in 1686 so a birth date of around 1660 might be expected.  The 1705 will of William BROOKBANKS of Gt.Malvern and of his wife Barbara (see below) identifies William as Christopher’s brother and also names a sister Ann married to John PALFREY.  There are suitable baptisms for Christopher, William and Ann at Hanley Castle some 3 miles from Madresfield.  This identifies the following baptism at Hanley Castle with confidence:

C  5Nov1655 Christopher  s Christopher & Mary BOWKBANK

MARRIAGE

Christopher 7 was baptised at Madresfield in 1695, son of Christopher & Isabell.  A series of baptisms to these parents there begins in 1686, but no marriage of Christopher & Isabell has been found; it is not in the Worcester m index
