John
was probably born around 1700 or a little earlier, but his parish of origin
is unknown. Possibly he was born in the
parish of St.Erth near Hayle, but in 1721 he married Joan LANYON at Gulval
about 5 miles from St.Erth. Joan was born in Gulval, and John and Joan baptised five children there between 1721 and 1731. Some time after, the whole family moved another 5 miles to the parish of Paul. Joan was buried there aged 46, but John outlived her for 8 years before he too was buried at Paul in 1754 |

John-7 was married at Gulval in 1721 and was buried at Paul in 1754. A birth date around 1690-1700 is therefore expected. The registers of Gulval commence in 1598, but the first CARNPEZZACK entry is in 1721, so his baptism must be sought elsewhere.
The IGI has CARNPEZZACK entries for this date and earlier at Sithney about 10 miles east of Gulval, and at St Erth about 5 miles NE of Gulval. There is one baptism of John at St Erth at the right time:
C 23Feb1689 John s Johnson CARNEPESSACK (from IGI)
However there are no other entries for Johnson, and the original registers neither of St Erth nor Sithney have yet been examined.
It is also possible that the ancestors of the family were named CARNE or PEZZACK as both surnames occur in Cornwall. However CARNE is older than PEZZACK as there are no entries for the latter in the IGI before 1799. Thus it seems unlikely that CARNEPEZZACK was formed by the marriage of CARNE to PEZZACK, instead it seems more likely that PEZZACK was formed by dropping CARNE from the combined surname as is known to have happened at Paul. No suitable ancestors with these shorter surnames have yet been found.
Joan was baptised at Gulval in 1731, daughter of John CARNPEZICK; this was the last of a series of baptisms to John starting in 1721 and is preceded by the following marriage:
m 6Jny1721 John CARNPESSACK & Joan LANYON
C 5Nov1721 Elizabeth d John CARNPEZZACK
C 29Feb1724 John s John CARNPEZZACK
C 23Oct1726 Mary d John CARNPEZZACK
B 15Aug1727 Mary CARNPESSECK
C 10Jun1728 Mary d John CARNPESACK
C 10Jul1731 Joan d John CARNPEZIK
There is only one later CARNPEZZACK entry at Gulval. At Paul, five miles away however, CARNPEZZACK register entries commence in 1748, and a number of these records indicate that the above family moved from Gulval to Paul, probably between 1735 and 1745. Thus at Paul there is a suitable marriage and burial for John (C1724 at Gulval) and marriages for Mary (C1728 at Gulval) and Joan (C1731 at Gulval):
m 13Apr1748 John CARNEPEZZACK & Elizabeth PINE
B 18Feb1799 John CARNEPEZZACK 76 [b1723]
m 24Sep1752 William MANN & Mary CARNEPEZZACK
m 1Jun1765 Stephen BLEWET & Joan CARNPEZZACK
Additionally as shown below there are suitable burials at Paul for the parents, John and Joan, showing that the whole family moved, not just the descendants
B 26Jun1746 Joan CARNEPEZACK
B 4Apr1754 John CARNEPEZACK
There remains one unassigned burial at Gulval: B 23Jny1732 John CARNPEZICK. It is possible that this burial refers to John-7 rather than the above 1754 burial at Paul as it occurs after the last child, Joan, was baptised. In this case, the family moved to Paul after the death of the father, which seems unlikely, as a destitute family would be supported by the parish in which they had legal settlement. This would surely be Gulval where the family married and lived and not Paul. Moreover, in this scenario, the burial of John at Paul in 1754 cannot be accounted for. It seems much more likely that John and Joan both moved to Paul and were buried there. The burial at Gulval would then refer to an earlier generation, probably John-7’s father, and it would be after his death that the remaining family moved to Paul
Joan
Lanyon was married at Gulval in 1721 and there is just one suitable baptism in
that parish preceded by a marriage:

22Apr1699 Johannis LANYON & Elizabetha WOOLCOCK at Gulval
C
14Jny1700 Johanna d Johannis LANYON
