6 Thomas DINGWALL 1746-?

m Christian McDONALD c1770

Thomas DINGWALL was baptised in 1746 at Kiltarlity, Inverness, and probably lived his whole life there.  He was the son of the miller, but Thomas' occupation is not known.  He married Christian McDONALD about 1770, (though the marriage record has not been found) and baptised at least six children at Kiltarlity.

BIRTH

Thomas lived in Kiltarlity and was married about 1770;  his eldest known son was named Rory (Roderick), so according to Scottish naming patterns, Thomas should be a child of Roderick.  There is a suitable baptism at Kiltarlity:

C  8Jne1746 Thomas s Rodrick DINGWALL milner in Belladrum; witness: the congregation

The IGI gives the surname as DINGWALL MILNER, but not the OPR index, and I believe that MILNER refers to Rodrick's occupation, though there are MILNERs as a true surname in Kiltarlity

MARRIAGE

Roderick (Rory) Dingwall-5 was baptised in 1773 at Kiltarlity son of Thomas.  There is a series of baptisms to Thomas at this time, including Elisabeth and John, who were children of Thomas and Christian McDONALD.  It is assumed therefore that Roderick was also the son of Thomas and Christian McDonald, especially as  Alexander McDONALD was a witness to the baptism of Rory and of all the other children of Thomas.  The m of Thomas and Christian McDonald however was not found in the Kiltarlity register, or in the OPR index.  The baptisms begin in 1772, so a marriage about 1770 is expected
