Dingwall genealogy

Dingwall is a common surname in the region around the town of Dingwall in Ross. The earliest known ancestor came from the parish of Kiltarlity in Inverness, only a few miles from Dingwall,

Roderick Dingwall was the miller at a place called Beladrum in Kiltarlity around 1750. His son Thomas remained in Kiltarlity, but his grandson, Roderick moved first to Glasgow then to Scone in Perthshire where he worked as a wright 30 years for the Earl of Mansfield at Scone Palace.

Roderick took his own life in 1846 after the accidental death of his wife. His son William, sometime chairmaker, joiner and builder of greenhouses, moved between Stirling, Glasgow and Lancashire. His daughter, Helen, married David Justice, a ship's engineer and moved to London.
