[1] it is unlikely but possible that this burial refers to Richard's father; if he m at 19 he would be 75 at this burial

[2] the wdr William who married Sarah COCKEARTON in 1802 is almost certainly the son of Thomas & Mary as shown, but could possibly be the William baptised 1756, son of Richard & Elizabeth. This is because Wm, the son of Thomas, was in the village with his parents in the 1775 and 1778 census, and is known to be buried in the village in 1840 (from burial age); his wife Sarah was a widow in 1841. Wm the son of Richard, however was not recorded in the village in 1775 or 1778, and there is a William burial in the village in 1759 when he would have been 3, (though this burial might be that of Wm the son of Richard & Mary born 1724). In any case, Wm, the son of Richard, either died when he was 3 or left the village. Further support that this Wm is the son of Thomas is given by the naming of his 3rd son as Thomas
