Charles
probably married in 1764 at Shoreditch, but was then of Christchurch,
Southwark. There are many possible
baptisms in London IGI, but only two in London Surrey:
C
30aug1732 Charles s Charles & Rebecca HARRIS at St Olave Southwark
C
24feb1740 Charles s Daniel & Hannah HARRIS at St
Olave Southwark
However,
the Surrey parishes are not well covered by the IGI and more information is
needed before this line can be taken further
Charles, son
of Daniel, was apprenticed as a joiner in 1752 ( PRO: IR1/19/57):
Charles, son of Daniel HARRIS apprenticed to
Richard ELLIOT, citizen & joiner, £10; 1752
It is
presently assumed that Henry-6 was born 16May1772 and baptised at Shoreditch St
Leonard 14Jun1772, son of Charles and Margaret. No other baptisms to these parents have yet been found, and there
is only one suitable marriage in UK IGI:
m 26may1764 Charles HARRIS bch of
Christchurch SRY & Margaret HAMMOND spr otp minor by licence with consent
of Mary HAMMOND widow mother; at Stepney St Dunstan; wit: Martha WATLINGTON,
William HAMMOND
The
relatively uncommon combination of forenames (Charles & Margaret) suggests
that this is the correct marriage; it is in the right area at the right time,
and a connection with areas south of the Thames was continued by Henry-6 when
he baptised his daughter there in 1805.
The 8 year interval between this m and the baptism of Henry strongly
suggests that other children were born in this period, possibly in the Surrey
parishes not in the IGI.
C 14Jun1772 Henry s Charles & Margaret
HARRIS of Swan Yard; b16May1772

information
Margaret HAMMOND
was a minor of Stepney St Dunstan when she married in May 1764; her mother was
a widow named Mary. There is only one
baptism in the London IGI fitting these criteria:
C
30May1744 Margaret d John & Mary HAMMOND at St Mary Whitechapel
several baptisms to these parents in the London IGI are preceded by a suitable m, but the baptisms are at various churches and are not necessarily all to the same parents:
m25Jul1738 John HAMMOND & Mary DUNN St
Botolph Bishopsgate
C 15Jan1738 Ross d John & Mary HAMMOND St Sepulchre
C 27Apr1739 John s John & Mary
