Elizabeth was born in the Essex village of Belchamps Otten in 1765, the daughter of Isaac Helsdon, the parish clerk.  She married the village blacksmith, Nathaniel MANN, in the parish when she was 23 and baptised at least 7 children in the village before her husband died a young man while she was only 35.

 

She remained a widow in the village until at least 1818, but no further records of her life have been found, neither re-marriage nor death nor burial

Elizabeth HELSDON married Nathaniel MANN at Belchamps Otten in 1788.  There is a suitable baptism in the parish giving an age of 23 at marriage:

Sarah’s maiden name was HAYDON (see Isaac’s records) and Elizabeth baptised one of her sons by the name of Haydon, confirming that this is the correct baptism.

Neither burial nor remarriage of Elizabeth has been found.  The Land Tax Assessments for Belchamp Otten show Nathaniel Mann occupying land between 1797 and 1800 with owner William ELSDON (Elizabeth’s brother?).  Widow Mann occupied the land from 1809 to 1818 together with William BYFORD
