6 Isaac HELSDON 1731-1768

m Sarah HEYDON 1759

Isaac was baptised in1731 at Haverhill in Suffolk, son of Isaac and Martha Hilsdon and married Sarah Heydon there when he was 28.  Immediately after marriage, Isaac was appointed parish clerk at Belchamp Otten, some 10 miles away in Essex.  He succeeded Edmund Elsden there as parish clerk, but no family connection has yet been found between Edmund and Isaac.

Isaac and Sarah baptised six children at Belchamp Otten, where their name was now recorded as Helsdon.  One child died as an infant, and Isaac himself died aged just 37 shortly after the baptism of his last child.  He was buried at Belchamp Otten in 1768

Sarah lived as a widow in the village until at least 1779, but no record of her burial or re-marriage has been found.

BIRTH

Isaac and Sarah were both of the parish of Haverhill when they married there in 1759.  There is a suitable baptism of Isaac there in 1731, giving him a marriage age of 28:

C 18Jul1731 Isaac s Isaac & Martha HILSDON

MARRIAGE

Elizabeth-5 was baptised at Belchamps Otten, daughter of Isaac & Sarah in 1765.  A series of baptisms to these parents commences in 1760 but no marriage has been found at Belchamps Otten, in Boyd or IGI (ESX & SFK) or in Baxter's ESX m index or ESX m licence index.  A suitable marriage however was found at Haverhill in Suffolk, about 9 miles East of Belchamps Otten:

from Haverhill parish register:

m  3Jul1759 Isaac HILSDON & Sarah HEYDON by banns both otp

Since Isaac and Sarah of Belchamps Otten baptised a son by the unusual forename of Haydon (and the name was re-used in succeeding generations) the marriage at Haverhill is undoubtedly correct
