7 Mary JOHNSON 1744-1824

m Joseph CRANVIL 1769

Mary was born in the Hertfordshire parish of Furneux Pelham in 1744, but married Joseph CRANVIL in the neighbouring parish of Brent Pelham when she was 25

Mary & Joseph baptised at least eight children at Brent Pelham between 1770 and 1784.  Joseph was probably an agricultural worker, and was noted as poor when their last child was baptised in 1784.

Mary was buried at Brent Pelham in 1824 aged 79.

BIRTH

Mary was married at Brent Pelham in 1769 and buried there in 1824 aged 79, so a birth date of around 1745 is expected.  There are two baptisms of Mary JOHNSON at Brent Pelham, one in 1736 and one in 1759.  Both are daughters of Matthew, probably father and son.  Second baptism is clearly too late, but 1st C would give an age at death of 88 instead of the 79 stated. Possible, but not certain.  However there is a baptism of Mary at the right time, 1744, in the next parish of Furneux Pelham, just 2 miles away, daughter of Thomas & Grace.  Mary's second son was named Thomas and no son was named Matthew and pending further evidence, it will be assumed that this is the correct baptism:

C 21Sep1744 Mary  d Thomas  & Grace JOHNSON  at Furneux Pelham

MARRIAGE

Thomas CRANVIL-6 was baptised at Brent Pelham in 1771 son of Joseph & Mary CRANWELL.  The baptism is preceded by a suitable marriage at Brent Pelham:

m 23Oct1769 Joseph x CRANVIL otp & Mary x JOHNSON otp; wit: Susana SMAL[?] [S.MAN?]; Wm X SHEEN [KEEN?]

There was no other CRANWELL/CRANVILLE family in the parish at this time so little doubt that this is the correct marriage
