7 John KING 1726-1790

m Martha PEAKE 1750

John KING lived and died in Bletchingdon or nearby Wendlebury.  He was baptised at Bletchingdon in 1726 and probably became a blacksmith.

He maried Martha PEAKE in 1750 at Oxford and they baptised 7 children at Bletchingdon, though four of them died in infancy.

Both John and Martha were buried in 1790 at Bletchingdon aged 64 and 60 when they were both on parish relief.

BIRTH

John lived and died in Bletchingdon, and from his age at burial, he was born about 1728.  There is only one suitable baptism at Bletchingdon:

C 23Jun1726 John s Robert & Martha KING at Bletchingdon

John named his first son John and his second Robert, so there is no reason to doubt the correctness of this baptism

MARRIAGE

Robert KING-6 was baptised at Bletchingdon, son of John & Martha; the earliest known baptism to these parents is of Martha, baptised 1Dec1751 at Bletchingdon.  There is no suitable marriage of John & Martha at Bletchingdon, but the following was found from the Oxford m index:

m 16Oct1750 John KING of Wendlebury & Martha PEAKE of Wendlebury at Oxford St Mary Magdalen

Wendlebury is 5 miles from Bletchingdon and was the birthplace of John's father; this is surely the correct marriage
