Mary was baptised at Trinity Gask church while her father was working at Lawhill, a farm which still lies within sight of the churchyard. She married a blacksmith, James JUSTICE, from the nearby parish of Tibbermore when she was 21. They lived at Newhouse farm in Tibbermore about 2 ½ miles from Perth which is still there today. Mary and James baptised ten children at Tibbermore while living at Newhouse, but there are no later records of her life or death |

When Mary
married in 1770 she was of Trinity Gask parish and the marriage was proclaimed
there. There are two possible C of Mary
at Trinity Gask:
C 10Oct1736 Mary LENNOCH d David LENNOCH
& Margret SMYTH [34 at m]
C
3Apl1749 Mary LENNOCH d John LENNOCH & Cathrine CLOW [21 at m]
Mary's
first son was named John and her second daughter was named Catherine. On this basis and on grounds of age, the second
baptism is almost certainly the correct one.
(Mary's fourth son was named David, but no daughter named
Margaret). Moreover, the 2nd son and
1st daughter are probably named after James' parents, giving a
"reversed" Scottish naming pattern - ie 1st son 2nd da after mother's
parents, 2nd son, 1st da after father's parents rather than the other way
round. I have seen this also in the DINGWALL family.
The
marriage of David & Margaret was not found in the OPR index, neither any
further baptisms; David son of David was C at Dunblane 1738 and 1745 (thouh
other baptisms to David preceded these), and John son of David was baptised at
Fowlis Wester 1742. In 1746 David
married Helen MURRAY at Trinity Gask and baptised three children there: James 1748, Ann 1750, Matthew 1757
The death
certificate of David JUSTICE the bleacher/calico printer identifies his parents
as James JUSTICE, blacksmith, and Mary LENNOX; the census gives his birthplace
as Tibbermore. David's baptism at
Tibbermore is preceded by the following m at Tibbermore:

their two
youngest children both moved to Glasgow around 1825, was this after the death
of their parents, or did their parents move with them?
