4  Nathaniel MANN 1796-1884

m Harriet AGER 1819

Nathaniel was born in Belchamp Otten in 1796, but his father died when he was only 4.  He married a girl from the neighbouring parish of Ovington and after their first son was baptised at Belchamps St Paul, they settled in Ovington, where Nathaniel worked as an agricultural labourer or husbandman.

They had five children altogether.  By 1861, they were on their own, but in 1871 they were living in the last house in Tilbury Rd with their grandson Netheniah on parish relief.  The cottage still stands, a fair-sized detached building with a thatched roof.  Harriet died in Ovington in 1880 aged 81, probably at the cottage.  Nathaniel was still in the cottage in 1881 aged 86, but died at his son's house in Ridgewell three years later
