Susannah
MORTLOCK married at Paglesham in 1793 so a birth date of around 1770 is
expected but no baptism has been found at Paglesham where the MORTLOCK name
occurs only in Susannah’s marriage. The
will of Samuel MORTLOCK (6), yeoman of Paglesham, however shows that he was the father of Susannah, and the will
also mentions property at Haverhill in Suffolk. In the records of Samuel-6 it is shown that his descendants,
including Susannah, were baptised at Hundon some 5 miles from Haverhill:

The family notebook gives the full name of Elizabeth SKINSLY-4 as Elizabeth Mortlock SKINSLY, and her baptism at Paglesham to William & Susannah is preceded by the following marriage:
m 3Apr1793 William x SKINGLY otp &
Susannah x MODLICK otp by banns; witness: Elizabeth JOHNSON, Wm x SKINGLY
MODLICK is clearly a mis-spelling of MORTLOCK, but is perhaps an indication of its Essex pronunciation

Susannah SKINSLEY, spinster, m James PALMER at Paglesham 6Apr1824 so is very probably a daughter of William & Susannah born c1800 born after the burial of their first child named Susannah [BT for Paglesham begin 1800, original register difficult to read]. Susan SKINSLY who witnessed the m of Elizabeth, more likely to be Elizabeth’s mother than her sister
no burial of Susannah found at Paglesham, but registers are poorly kept and difficult to read
no entry for William or Susan found in death index at GRO 1837-1841
there is a possible burial of William in the Paglesham register:
B
18Jun1800 William SKINSLEY,
but this could be the son born in 1795 or perhaps more likely the grandfather remarried in 1774
no SKINSLY found at Paglesham or in Rochford Union workhouse in 1841 census
