Susannah was baptised at Hampton Poyle in 1716 and married
Samuel STRINGER in 1738. Samuel was
a yeoman in nearby Islip but he died in 1746 and Susannah remarried Jonathon
ROUSE a butcher of Kidlington, which is just across the River Cherwell from
Hampton Poyle. Susannah & Jonathon baptised at least three children at
Kidlington; they had another daughter Susannah, but her baptism has not been
found. Jonathon died in 1800 and Susannah died four years later aged
88. They were both buried at

The first marriage
of Susannah PEESLEY was in 1738, when she was of Hampton Poyle; she was buried
in 1804 so a birth date around 1720 is expected. There is just one suitable baptism at Hampton Poyle:

ROUSE-6 married Susannah STRINGER at Hampton Poyle in 1747. The marriage was by licence and the
allegation shows that Susannah was a widow at marriage:

previous marriage of Susannah STRINGER has not been found in a parish register,
but an Archdeaconry Court marriage licence was issued in 1738 to Susannah
PEESLEY:

the
marriage was not found at St Mary Virgin; that the marriage took place however
is shown by the baptism of a child Samuel STRINGER at Hampton Poyle the
following year; there are two possible
burials of Samuel STRINGER in the NBI:
B 1740
Samuel STRINGER of Hampton Poyle at Islip (2 miles from Hampton Poyle)
B 1746
Samuel STRINGER at Wood Eaton (3 miles from Hampton Poyle)
these may
well refer to son and father and a connection between the ROUSE and PEESLEY
families is confirmed by the presence of ROUSE witnesses to two PEESLEY
marriages at Hampton Poyle in 1778 and 1782

It is
believed that at least one other child was born, Susannah, about 1764. The Kidlington register seems complete, so
baptisms may have occurred elsewhere in the period 1756-1770; no other children
found in IGI parent search. Note also
that Jonathon ROUSE who married E.WATTS appears to be aged 41 at marriage,
though noted as 25au in the licence.
Possibly a second Jonathon was born around 1765

ages are given but the burial of Jonathon cannot refer to the son born 1749 as
he and his wife Elizabeth continued to baptise children at Kidlington up to
1803; there is no other suitable candidate for the burial of Susannah, leaving
little doubt that these burials refer to Jonathon-7 and his wife Susannah, even
though Susannah’s age appears to be 88 at burial
