John PENDER was born in Paul in 1730 and lived all his life in the parish. He married Dorothey GOMER there when he was 25 and they baptised five children in the parish church.

John’s occupation is not known, but he was long lived, buried at Paul in 1814 aged 84. He had outlived his wife by 11 years

BIRTH

John-6 married Dorothy GOMER at Paul in 1755 and baptised children to 1769 so a birth around 1730 is expected; this fits with a burial of a John PENDER at Paul in 1814 aged 80, giving a birth date of about 1734.

There is only one possible baptism at Paul at this time

This was followed by a possible burial: B 2Apr1731 John PENDAR. However there was a John PENDER baptised at Paul in 1702, son of Oliver and this seems the likely John buried in 1731, as there is no indication that the burial is of an infant

The IGI has two possible other baptisms of a John PENDER:

C 5Jun1734 John s Wm PENDAR at Isles of Scilly

The John born in Penzance seems to have stayed in Penzance as there are baptisms to John there in 1761-1765, and it seems unlikely that John of Scilly would come to Paul especially as William was not used as a family name

Mary PENDER –5 was baptised at Paul in 1768, dau of John & Dorothy PENDER; a series of baptisms to these parents is preceded by a suitable marriage at Paul:

the only suitable baptism of John around 1734 in the Paul register is the son of Robert, baptised in 1730, but there are two possible John PENDERs to account for the burial in 1786 other than the son of Robert C1730:
