Oliver was married at St Buryan in 1671 and baptised children until 1685, so a birth date around 1640/50 is expected. Unfortunately, the surviving St.Buryan registers commence in 1653 and no suitable baptism has been found after that date. However in 1672 and 1673, Oliver-8 is referred to as Oliver junior, and this is followed by the burial of Oliver senior in 1683. It is safe to assume therefore that Oliver junior was the son of Oliver senior. Two baptisms to Oliver senior were recorded in the surviving registers showing that his wife’s name was Joan. She was buried the day after the baptism of her last child:

preceded by the following marriage:

The
original register has not yet been examined to determine whether the surname
CARNE is valid or not. It may well be
correct since Oliver and Susan named their last child Carne, probably following
a common Cornish custom of using the wife’s surname as a forename

there are two burials of Oliver PENDER in the St Buryan register:

As
discussed above, the first burial is believed to be that of the father of
Oliver-8 and the second burial is too late for the Oliver-8 who married in 1671
and is probably the burial of Oliver’s son baptised in 1673.
Thus no record has been found of the death of Oliver-8; neither has the burial of his wife Susan been found, though there is a burial on 30Mch1722 of Mrs Sarah PENDER, which might possibly be an error for Susan, as no Sarah PENDER is known
