William
was married at Paglesham in 1793 so was probably born about 1770. There is a suitable C at Paglesham in 1771,
son of Matthew & Jane; there is no
other evidence to connect with these parents, but SKIN(G)SLEY is not a common
name:
C 31Mar1771 Wm s Matthew & Jane SKINGLEY
The family notebook gives the full name of Elizabeth SKINSLY (4) as Elizabeth Mortlock SKINSLY, and her baptism at Paglesham to William & Susannah is preceded by the following marriage:
m 3Apr1793 William x SKINGLY otp & Susannah x MODLICK otp by banns;
witness: Elizabeth JOHNSON, Wm x SKINGLY
MODLICK is clearly a mis-spelling of MORTLOCK, but is perhaps an indication of its Essex pronunciation
C 14Apr1793 Elizabeth d William & Susannah SKINSLY
C 22Mar1795 William s William & Susannah SKINSLY
B 25Nov1798 Susannah d William & Susannah SKINSLY
Susannah SKINSLEY, spinster, m James PALMER at Paglesham 6Apr1824 so is very probably a daughter of William & Susannah born c1800
[BT for Paglesham begin 1800, original register difficult to read]
there is a possible burial of William in the Paglesham register:
B 18Jun1800 William SKINSLEY,
but this could be the son born in 1795 or perhaps more likely the grandfather remarried in 1774 (see discussion of birth of Matthew SKINGSLY 6)
no burial of Susannah found at Paglesham, though registers are poorly kept and difficult to read
no likely entry for William or Susan found in death index at GRO 1837-Dec1845; (two Susannah’s at Chelmsford4q1844 and 4q1845)
1841: no SKINSLY found at Paglesham, in Rochford Union workhouse, or in Barling or Shoebury
no suitable William or Susan found in 81 index (should be aged
