Rebecca was born in 1812 in the Oxfordshire village of Forest Hill.  She married William DOWSON, a tailor, in nearby Stanton St John when she was 19, but he died two years later of a fever, and no children of this marriage are known. 

 

Rebecca was also described as a tailor when she remarried at the age of 23.  Her new husband, Thomas YOUNG, was a stonemason of Kirtlington and they married in the parish church there.  Thomas and Rebecca had seven or perhaps eight children, all born in Kirtlington, but some were baptised in Rebecca's home of Forest Hill.

 

Rebecca and Thomas both lived to old age, Rebecca died in 1896 aged 80; Thomas in 1908 aged 96.

According to the census, Rebecca was was born about 1816 in Forest Hill, and her marriage certificate names her father as Stephen SOANES a hurdle-maker.  There is one suitable baptism in Forest Hill
