Stephen was born in Forest Hill and lived much of his life in the parish continuing the family tradition of making hurdles from laths.

 

He was born in 1790 and married Martha KING in 1814.  Four children were baptised in Forest Hill, and the first two were possibly twins as they were baptised on the same day, just 9 months after the marriage.  In 1841, Stephen was with his married daughter Rebecca in Kirtlington, but Martha was not there.  They were both in Forest Hill in 1851 however with their unmarried son Joseph.

 

Martha died in 1856 and Stephen remained with Joseph now married to Sarah.  He died in 1866 aged 76.
