[1] it is uncertain which
William married Anne YEAMAN and which married Mary YEAMAN; the arrangemant
shown is preferred because William & Ann named their first daughter Joan
(name of William’s mother) and also used the names Richard and Sarah (names of
William’s siblings)
[2] it is uncertain which of
these two John’s (if either) married Sarah WRIGHT and which married Martha
PEZZACK. Neither of them named any son
William, and either John would have been 39 when he married Martha. It is possible however that John &
Sarah’s first child was named Mary, though the register records her as a child
of John & Mary. No other references
to parents John & Mary were found and the baptism occurs at the right time
for a baptism of John & Sarah’s first child. If this is correct then this John is likely to be the son of
William and Mary. The above arrangement
has been drawn on this slender evidence.
[3] the Paul register notes that this William was hung for murder:
B 27Nov1792 Martha
BLEWETT. “This aged person on Monday 26Nov1792 between 9 and 10 oclock in the
forenoon as she was journeying on the road from Mousehole to Paul church-town
was robbed of all her little property which she had by great industry and
parsimony scraped together for the support of declining age and most inhumanly
murdered, her throat being cut from ear to ear, for which William TREWAVAS
junior of Mousehole, fisherman, (a young man not exceeding the 26th year of his
age) was on the Thursday (the same evening that this unfortunate woman was
buried) apprehended and from a variety of depositions and corroborating
circumstances committed to the County Goal {sic} as the person supposed guilty
of this atrocious and bloody deed.
Inscription upon a cross
erected in Mousehole Rd near the place where the body of Martha Blewett was
found: ‘O remember the Almighty the Great King of Kings and Lord of Lords hath
in the table of his law commanded thou shall do no murder’
NB. William Trevawas was tried at Launceston for
this murder and found guilty and suffered the punishment due to his offence on
Wednesday 28Mar1793”
[4] the register records Mary as a child of John & Mary but no other references to parents John
& Mary were found and the baptism occurs at the right time for the baptism
of John & Sarah’s first child. It
is possible that this is a transcription error
[5] Mary TREWAVAS is shown on the right hand side of this tree as the
daughter of John & Martha C1806
[6] Mary TREWAVAS married
Benjamin TREWAVAS as shown on the left hand side of this tree
[7] the Paul register records
Benjamin as a son of Benjamin & Grace; no other references to
parents Benjamin & Grace were found, and it seems likely that this is a
transcription error for Theophilus and Grace
[8] the many links between the
TREWAVAS and the WRIGHT families are depicted on a separate TREWAVAS/WRIGHT tree
