John VAILES was baptised at Witham in 1668 and became a weaver there, one of the principal trades of the town. He married Elizabeth PULLIN at Witham parish church in 1691 but only one baptism to these parents has been found, that of Hannah in 1707. It is very probable that they had a son John born about 1692, and maybe other children baptised elsewhere in the period up to 1707. Clothmaking began to decline after 1710 at Witham as elsewhere, but John remained a weaver until his burial at Witham in 1733. |

John
VAILES 8 married Elizabeth PULLIN at Witham in 1691 so a birth date around 1670
is expected. There is one suitable
baptism at Witham:
C 13Sep1668
John s Zecharie VALE
there is
no confirming evidence, but this baptism makes John aged 23 at marriage and as
VAILES is not a common name, it seems reasonably safe to assume that this is
the correct baptism
it is presently assumed that John VAILES 7 was the son of John VAILES & Elizabeth PULLIN, though the baptism has not been found

there is a
burial of Elizabeth in 1712, but this is perhaps the wife of Zecchariah (see Zecchariah Vailes-9)
