BIRTH

Daniel married in 1740 and died in 1787 both events at Tysoe, so a birth date around 1710/20 is expected.  He was of Compton Winiate at marriage, but a settlement certificate shows he was legally settled in Tysoe, though the grounds for his settlement there were not stated.   The settlement certificate was issued by the wardens of Beaudesert and also noted that Daniel or his son William was born in “Belsurr”.   This parish has not been identified, though may be Balsall or Beausale some 20m north west of Tysoe and near to Beaudesert, or Balscott in OXF, 4 miles from Tysoe.

The baptism of Daniel was not found at Tysoe

No WIGSON register entries were found at Beaudesert (adjacent to Henley in Arden)

The Compton Winyates register on microfiche at SoG covers 1683-1696 and 1714-1812. There were very few entries for the period 1714-1720, and no WIGSON among them.  It is not known whether the original registers cover the missing period.

The village of Balsall seems to be covered by the registers of Temple Balsall for the period after 1736, but before that date by  the registers of Hampton-in-Arden.  Many baptisms at Hampton in this period were “of Balsall” but no WIGSONs were found.  Beausale registers have not been deposited and have not been examined.

Balscott registers run from 1821, before that date, events may be recorded at Wroxton, OXF, but no suitable WIGSON found there

A Daniel WIGSON was married at Banbury in 1702

L 2Jun1702 Daniel WIGSON of Eydon Northants, mason, and Anne SAUL at Banbury (from licence index and Banbury register)

the licence added no extra information and was dated 2Jun1702 at Banbury; no children of Daniel & Ann found at Banbury, Eydon, or in IGI but they are clearly possible parents of Daniel as Banbury is only some 8 miles from Tysoe.  No burial of Daniel found in NBI

Examination of the Eydon register shows that WIGSON was a common name there, and Robert & Anne baptised a Daniel in 1715.  Eydon is about 7 m NE of Banbury and 10 m from Tysoe;  from the Eydon register:

m 10Jun1701 Robert WIGSON & Ann TEW

C  1May1702 Robert         s Robert & Anne WIGSON b 1May1702

C 26Dec1706 Marie          d Robert & Anne WIGSON

C  5Aug1711 Elizabeth      d Robert & Anne WIGSON

C 19Jan1714+Daniel         s Robert & Anne WIGSON

This Daniel was born at the right time and only 10 miles away.  However, Daniel-7 did not baptised any children Robert or Anne, so further research is needed, particularly to identify the Daniel married at Banbury.  It seems likely that Robert and Daniel both of Eydon were brothers

MARRIAGE

Mary WIGSON-6 was baptised at Tysoe in 1749, daughter of Daniel & Mary.  There is a s series of baptisms to these parents at Tysoe beginning in 1741 but no marriage there.  A suitable marriage however was found in the parish of Radway just three miles from Tysoe:

m 29Jun1740 Daniel WIGTON of Compton Winiate & Mary GIBBS of Ratley

Compton Winiate is about 2 miles south of Tysoe, and the relatively uncommon name Daniel WIGSON/WIGTON leaves little doubt that this is the correct marriage

GIBBS Family

Although Mary GIBBS was of Ratley when she married at the associated parish of Radway, no suitable baptism had been found in either parish register.  There are earlier GIBBS families at Tysoe, but none around 1710/20 the expected birth date of Mary
