BIRTH

Martin was married in 1764 and his probable burial record gives him a birth date c1733.  There are three possible baptisms in the Paul register:

C 8Oct1733 Martin  s Martin WRIGHT

C12Jny1734 Martin  s Martin WRIGHT; B13Jny1734 Martine WRIGHT

C31Jul1736 Martin  s Martin WRIGHT

As discussed in the biography of Martin WRIGHT-7, it is believed that the child born in 1733 was the son of Martin & Mary (PEARCE), the child born in 1734 was buried the following day, and the child born in 1736 was the son of Martin and Mary (CRANKIN)

It remains to decide which Martin married Anne ROBERTS in 1764, and there is very little evidence, one way or the other.  Martin’s age of 83 at his probable burial in July 1816 gives him a birth date between July 1732 and July 1733 which fits the son of Martin & Mary PEARCE.  However, ages at death are unreliable particularly those of great age.

The names of the children of Martin & Anne do not provide much help as almost all could be associated with either Martin.  Their first child was named Sarah, and the only preceding Sarah WRIGHT at Paul was the daughter of John & Clarinda; John is believed to be the brother of Martin who married CRANKIN.  Sarah married John TREWAVAS whose sister Elizabeth TREWAVAS married Michael WRIGHT son of John & Clarinda WRIGHT.  Thus if Martin-6 were son of Mary PEARCE, the TREWAVAS siblings married 1st cousins, but this is hardly convincing

At present therefore it cannot be decided which Martin married Anne ROBERTS, but in the absence of any other evidence, the age at burial will be assumed correct and that Martin-6 was therefore the son of Martin & Mary PEARCE, C1733

MARRIAGE

Richard WRIGHT-5 was baptised at Paul in 1767, son of Martin & Anne.  There is no suitable marriage at Paul, but the following is from the neighbouring parish of Madron:

m14May1764 Martin WRIGHT & Anne ROBERTS

DEATH

Martin died after 1788 (birth of last child) and probably before 1820 (married in 1764).  There is only one suitable burial in the Paul register:

B 8Jul1816 Martin WRIGHT Mousehole 83 [b1733]
