Martin-7 was married in 1733 to Mary PEARCE. This marriage is preceded by two possible baptisms at Paul
C31Mar1706
Martin s John WRITE (preceded by m 17Feb1700+John WRITE
& Jone CRANKAN)
C
2Sep1711 Martin s Martin WRITE
(preceded by m 3Oct1700 Martyn WRIGHT & Elizabeth JAMES at Madron
It is
concluded below that the first child of Martin and Mary PEARCE was named
Martin, while the first child of Martin and Mary CRANKIN was named John.
It is most probable therefore that Martin-7 who married Mary PEARCE was son of Martin baptised 1711, while Martin who married CRANKIN was son of John baptised 1706 (this Martin’s mother was another CRANKAN, which well supports the analysis).

It is
presently assumed that Martin WRIGHT-6 was baptised in 8Oct1733, the son of
Martin and Mary PEARCE. The baptism is
preceded by the following marriage:
m
28Mar1733 Martin WRIGHT & Mary PEARCE
Between 1732 and 1745, two sets of parents, both named Martin and Mary WRIGHT were baptising children at Paul, and the register does not distinguish between them. Mary PEARCE was dau of Henry PEARCE & Dorothy TONKIN or dau of Nicholas PEARCE, but no children named after these grandparents; the baptism of Mary CRANKIN has not been identified. However by making a few reasonable assumptions it is possible to allocate the children to one or other of these two sets of parents. The following is a list of the 2 marriages and 13 baptisms in chronological order, with allocation to Mary CRANKIN [C] or Mary PEARCE [P], followed by the reasoning behind the allocation in logical order:
m
7Oct1731 Martin WRIGHT & Mary CRANKIN
1 C 30Dec1732 John s Martin WRIGHT C
m 28Mar1733 Martin WRIGHT & Mary PEARCE
2 C 8Oct1733 Martin s Martin WRIGHT P

9 C 25Apr1743 Thomas s Martin & Mary WRIGHT C

11 C 26May1744 Jacob s Martin & Mary WRIGHT C B14Jny1744+Jacob WRIGHT infant
12 C 14Jul1745 Elizabeth d Martin & Mary WRIGHT P
13 C 21Sep1745 Joan d Martin & Mary WRIGHT C
14 C 2Jny1749+Jacob s Martin & Mary WRIGHT C
1 John-1 was baptised before the PEARCE marriage so son of CRANKIN
4 There was no burial of John-1 before
1736, so the John-4 baptised 1735/6 was son of PEARCE
5 Martin C1736 was baptised only 4 months after John-4 so must be son of CRANKIN
2/3 There was only one Martin burial after
the two Martin baptisms in 1733 and 1734/5 and before baptism of Martin-5, so
the survivor must be son of PEARCE; the burial on 13Jny1734/5 was very probably that of the child born the day
before, so the 1733 Martin was son of PEARCE and the buried child was son of
CRANKIN
10 the father was named as Martin junior
which implies that he (the father) was son of Martin, and so Richard-10 must be
son of PEARCE
9 Less
than 9 months before baptism of Richard 10, so son of CRANKIN
11 Less than 9 months after baptism of
Richard 10, so son of CRANKIN
7 there
was no Richard burial between 1740 and 1743; so, since the 1743 Richard was son
of PEARCE, Richard-7 must be son of CRANKIN
13 Joan assumed to be named after Martin’s mother, so daughter of CRANKIN
12 Less than 9 months before baptism of Joan13, so daughter of PEARCE, and named after Martin’s mother, Elizabeth
8
Elizabeth
assumed to be named after Martin’s mother, so daughter of PEARCE; died before
baptism of 2nd daughter Elizabeth
14 Martin junior was buried in 1746; this
implies he was son of Martin (still living) so married to PEARCE; Jacob must
therefore be son of CRANKIN
6 no means of identifying parents of Mary, but between two CRANKIN baptisms, so assumed to be daughter of PEARCE
B 26Apr1746 Martin WRIGHT jun
the description of Martin as junior, implies that he was the son of Martin, who was still living. This fits well with a baptism in 1711, giving an age at death of only 35; also fits with the last known baptism to Martin in July 1745
