m Susannah LANGSTON 1747

William WYATT was probably born around 1720 and married Susanna LANGSTON at the chapel of St George in Mayfair in 1747.

William & Susannah lived in Holborn and baptised nine children there between 1747 and 1767.  They lived first in Wharton Court then in Chancery Lane, and also for a brief period in High Holborn.

BIRTH

William was m at St George Mayfair in 1747 and baptised children at Holborn St Andrew from 1747 to 1767 so was probably born around 1720.  WYATT is not an uncommon surname and there are at least 3 possible Williams C at Holborn alone:

C  9Feb1717+William s Thomas & Elizabeth WYATT, over against St Andrews Church

C 18Mar1721+Margt   d Thomas & Elizabeth WYATT, Holborn

C 18Mar1721+William s William & Frances WYATT, Lee Street

m 31Mar1719 Thomas WYATT & Frances HIGGENS at St Clement Danes (IGI)

C 21Feb1719+Ann     d Thomas & Frances WYATT, Grays Inn Passage

C 15Jan1720+William s Thomas & Frances WYATT, Grays Inn Passage

B 21Sep1721 William WYATT from Grays Inn Passage (orange128)

C 11Nov1722 Frances d Thomas & Frances WYATT, Grays Inn Passage

The son of Thomas & Frances named William was buried in 1721 and no children were mentioned in either parent's wills so they can almost certainly be ruled out:

Archdeaconry Court wills

p 24May1740 Thomas WYATT admon to Francis, widow, relict (GL 905023)

p 13Jan1742 Frances WYATT widow of Grays Inn Passage; br-in-law Wm HIGGINS etc; no children mentioned

William-7 used the name Frances for four of his children, so the son of William & Frances seems favourite.  The marriage of Wm & Frances has not been found nor baptism of other children.   Their son William was baptised on the same day as Margaret daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth Wyatt which suggests that Thomas and William may have been brothers, especially as Thomas baptised his son William.

The IGI has been searched for two brothers named William and Thomas WYATT, but only brothers found so far are sons of Joseph & Agnes of St Sepulchre.  However the names Joseph & Agnes and those of their other children do not recur in the known family, so this is not promising.  Moreover, Thomas son of Joseph 7 Agnes was baptised in Aug 1700 which is rather late for Thomas first known baptism of his son William in Feb1717/18

The inland revenue record of apprentices contains the following (PRO: IR1/15/104):

1737: William son of William WYATT of St Giles in the Fields, apprenticed to Thomas PRYOR, citizen and baker, £20; this could be the William baptised in 1720/1, though 16 is rather late for apprenticeship.  The records of St Giles remain in the church, and a search could be worthwhile as the parish is adjacent to Holborn

MARRIAGE

Frances Elizabeth WYATT-6 was baptised at Holborn St Andrew in 1767, daughter of William & Susannah WYATT.  A series of baptisms to these parents is preceded by a suitable marriage at St George, Mayfair:

m 20Apr1747 William_WYATT & Susanna_LANGSTON of Holborn St Andrew; at Mayfair, St George

the use of Langston as a forename for one of their sons confirms this marriage as correct
