Thomas spent all his life in the Oxfordshire village of Kirtlington. He was baptised there in 1812, son of Frances and William, a butcher. Thomas became a stonemason, and married a young widow, Rebecca, at Kirtlington when he was 28. Stonemasonry was a common occupation in this part of Oxford, and on his death certificate it was noted that he worked for the big Kirtlington Estate owned by the Dashwood family. Thomas and Rebecca had seven children, all born in Kirtlington, but two were baptised in neighbouring Forest Hill, where Rebecca was born. They both lived to old age, Rebecca died in 1896 aged 80 but Thomas lived for another 12 years; in 1901 he was living with his widowed daughter Martha, a nurse, and he died in 1908 aged 96 |

According
to the census, Thomas was born about 1812 in Kirtlington, and from his
marriage, his father was William YOUNG a butcher. There is only one suitable baptism:
C 12Apr1812 Thomas s William & Ann YOUNG at Kirtlington (from Bishops
Transcript)
However
for reasons discussed in William
YOUNG-5 it is believed that Ann is a register or transcription error
for Frances
Frances
