GENEALOGY & LOCAL HISTORY RESEARCH

Howdenshire History: Genealogy Research Services

Are you trying to trace your ancestors?

I offer a professional genealogy research service for the whole UK - ranging from a few hours' assistance with a particular 'brick wall' to tracing your entire family tree. Please contact me for a free consultation.

I also have an extensive catalogue of old photographs and postcards of Howden, Goole and many Yorkshire villages. These evocative old views of the streets where our ancestors once lived can provide a wonderful way of illustrating a family history.

About me

With an honours degree in history from Sheffield University and over thirty years' experience as a local and family history tutor for the Workers' Educational Association, I have a strong background in historical research. My fascination with the past began at an early age, and has only strengthened over time!

I have been researching Howden, Goole and the surrounding Yorkshire villages for many years on a professional basis and have published several local history books about the district.

Over the years I have gathered a fairly encyclopaedic knowledge of the Howdenshire, Goole and Marshland areas, as well as the broader history of Yorkshire and the country at large. I am especially well-equipped to conduct specific local archive research to help those searching for Yorkshire ancestors.

Local history resources

This website also contains a lot of material about Eastrington, the East Yorkshire village where I was born and where my ancestors, the Nurse family, have lived for over 300 years.

There are also sections detailing the history and people of Howden, Goole and Snaith, as well as the history of some local Yorkshire villages such as Blacktoft, Gilberdyke, Laxton, Newport, Reedness and Skelton.

I have also gathered a lot of information about Howdenshire families who emigrated to Canada, America, Australia and elsewhere.
