Goole: SS Saltfleet aground at Reedness. Ran
aground 3 October 1951, en route to Poole with a cargo of
coal. Salvage operations began December 1951 but abandoned
October 1952. In March 1954 the wreck was cut in half and
scrapped.

Goole locomotive 90427.
This loco 90427 was the last steam engine to work out
of Goole Shed and is pictured here leaving for its last trip
with driver Ernie(?) Wood in 1965. Trainee firemen Dennis
Garner, Sam Robinson and Kevin Braithwaite marked this event
by naming the engine Jimi Hendrix Kevin Braithwaite wrote
"Jimi Hendrix express"on the front of the loco.
The Goole Times photographer was there and the picture was
used on the front page. |
