| History
of Goole, Yorkshire |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
These pages are the beginning of a series about the history of Goole drawn from my own archives. I've been writing and teaching about the town's history for over 30 years and have gathered a large amount of information, booklets, maps and pictures about most aspects of Goole's history. On these pages you can read about how the young Susanna Storr visited Goole in 1810; see if your ancestor was on the early Aire and Calder Goole census of 1828; and find out more about the changing face of Boothferry Road, Goole. The Goole Worthies: Goole's people pages include a lot of information gathered about a wide range of people who lived in Goole over the past two centuries and made their own contribution to the life and history of the town - including Goole's first doctor, William Eden Cass; Sheppards' music shop; the Aire & Calder Navigation engineer, William Hamond Bartholomew; memories of the building of the canal, the docks, the coming of the railway and much more. I also undertake genealogy and house research on a professional basis and have a large collection of old photographs covering Goole and the surrounding area.
