From the Goole Times, 31st August 1951:

PASSING OF GOOLE HEADMISTRESS

The funeral took place at Bolsterstone, Sheffield, last week of Miss Mary Elizabeth Thickett, who had been headmistress of the girl's department of Alexandra Street School since 1932, and who died at her home at Sheffield after an illness of some months' duration.

For a number of years before taking up her appointment at Alexandra Street, Miss Thickett was headmistress of Old Goole Girls' School. In both parts of the town she earned the high respect of parent and pupil alike. She was a keen churchwoman, and she also served on the Tuberculosis After-care Committee and was in charge of the national savings group at Alexandra Street School.

The service which preceded interment was conducted by the vicar of St Cuthbert's Church, Sheffield (the Rev. H. J. Spalding) and the Rev. C. E. Sunderland, curate of St Cuthbert's, and formerly of Goole.

Among the floral tributes were those from the Goole and District branch of the National Union of Teachers, Alexandra Street School, Goole Headteachers and the canteen staff of Alexandra Street School.
