SUTTON UNITED MATCH REPORT
By Howard Nyman
Ryman League Premier Division
Saturday 31st January 1998
Heybridge Swifts 3
Sutton United 1
The game was quite a physical affair with most being played in the Sutton half. Injuries to Joff Vansittart (Knee), Clive Gartell and Andy Salako (broken cheek bone) forced Sutton to adopt a 4-3-3 formation.
The first minute saw Heybridge hit the Crossbar. After 11 minutes Jnr Haynes controlled the ball well only to see his shot hit the post and Heybridge somehow managed to clear the ball during the goal mouth scramble that followed.
After 11 minutes a Danny Brooker corner was flicked on by Watson at the near post and after another scramble Matt Hanlan was able to slot the ball home.
John Ugbah was booked for a trip after 29 minutes.
After 59 minutes a Heybridge header again hit the crossbar and the rebound was shot over the goal.
Two bookings then followed, first after 64 minutes Jimmy Dack and then soon after Barry Laker.
Nassim Akrour was brought off for David Everitt in the 72nd minute.
81 minutes saw an excellent cross from David Everitt fall to Jnr Haynes whose powerful shot was deflected just wide.
Heybridge managed an equaliser on 84 minutes from a volley inside the box.
The last action of the game fell to Jimmy dack whose shot just went over the crossbar.
They now look forward to their home tie against Enfield on Saturday 7th Feb kick off 3pm.
The Sutton line up was:
Les Cleevely, Danny Brooker, Barry Laker, Gwynne Berry, Paul Clark, Nassim Akrour, John Ugbah, Jimmy Dack , Jnr Haynes, Matt Hanlan and Steve Watson.
Andy Salako and James Virgo were the unused subs.
In other news it seems that Dominic Feltham is likely to go on loan to Hampton. Also with Dagenham & Redbridge not playing Kingstonian are now in second place after there win against Bromley.
