SUTTON 1     NUNEATON 2

Sutton were unlucky not to get something out of this game , it was very much like the game at Nuneaton in October, Nuneaton having the enviable ability to gain maximum points without playing especially well. United lost this game to slack marking in the 84th minute. Nuneaton midfielder Paul Ware volleying his second goal. This despite a very strong finish to the game by United. The first half was a poor affair from both sides. Nuneaton did have one chance in the 18th minute and diving header which went just over. Sutton only managed a few long range efforts. Three minutes from half time Shaun Wray beat Skelly and fired in a cross for  Ware to meet with a downward header.

The second half started in much the same fashion as the first half . Jimmy Dack had one effort  just over the bar but it wasn't until Sammy Winston was introduced as a substitute for Nko Ekoku that things picked up. Winston's runs causing the Nuneaton defence all sorts of problems. It was from such a run that Winston powered past the fall back to deliver a hard low cross which alluded Newhouse and Watson but was met by Skelly who drove in his first conference goal. From then on it looked like Sutton would take the points. Harlow had a good effort saved and Newhouse almost managed to embarrass the visitors keeper MacKenzie,  after he dispossessed him and then shot just over the bar. MacKenzie was again called into action to save Winston's shot on the turn. It was just after this that Ware hit the eventual winner for Nuneaton. The ball header down for him to volley past Howells. Forrester replaced Watson and he was immediately in action after being put through by Harlow. Keeper Mackenzie again saving well. A final flurry by Sutton could not claim any reward and so Nuneaton went back to the top of the league and became the first team to do the double over Sutton.
