Ryman Premier League
1 Sutton United v Farnborough Town 0
A great hard fought display by Sutton who where the better side during the rain soaked game.
The majority of play was in the middle of the pitch with both sides giving away possession too easily on occasions. The first chance of the game fell to Chris Boothe who again played up front. Boothe was able to charge down a defenders clearance, the ball fell to Danny Bolt who was able to slot the ball back into the path of Boothe but Boothe couldnt direct the ball on target. Three minutes later Gareth Howells cleared after denying Ian Baird from a one on one situation. Baird then looked to challenge Howells after the ball had been released, but the ref didnt take any action (the story of the game). On thirty minutes Miguel De Souza struck from long range but was denied by Howells. With five minutes left of the half Jimmy Dack one of the many Sutton rejects on display volleyed a cross toward the ground but his shot bounced over. In the last few minutes of the half Sutton on a free kick on the edge of the area, Bolt stepped up to take it and whipped in a great ball into the area, which curled past every one in the box including the keeper. The ball looked to be going into the goal but the spin on the ball took the ball against the post and then was cleared by defenders.
The second half saw even less goalmouth action then there was in the first half as the rain made conditions worsen. On fifty seven minutes Lenny Piper gave the ball away to Richard Thompson who slotted the ball thru the defence to Danny Bolt who had time and space to run toward goal and was able to slip the ball thru the keepers legs to put Sutton in front. With twenty minutes remaining Ian Baird was allowed time to shoot the ball past Howells but his goal was disallowed for offside. Two minutes later a Michael Warner back pass wrong footed his keeper and almost gave Haworth an easy goal. With ten minutes left to go Farnborough had another goal disallowed for offside after De Souza had headed home. Sutton were able to hold on until the final whistle even though Farnborough did pile on the pressure in the final minutes. Sutton will be pleased with a good battling performance, which they deserved to win.
High Point A good display showing Sutton have got plenty of fight in them.
Low Point Bad weather conditions, which made the game harder to play
