Work for 2011We plan to work on Isfield lock from 20 April, 2011. The work days will be every Thursday and Saturday from the above date to the end of September, weather permitting. The plan this year is to dismantle a further section of the west wall to below the fault level, dig out behind this section, rebrick and reinforce with cement/steel work behind the new brickwork. Also, if spare labour available, rebuild the northwest approach wall with the stone available onsite. The entrance to Isfield Lock will for this summer be via the Plantation Cottage track. When getting up to the gate, please when entering, leave the gate as you find it. That is: if the gate is open leave it open; If it is shut with the padlock undone, shut the gate after coming through and leave the padlock undone; If the gate is shut with the padlock still on the chain, take off the padlock, (see Ted Lintott or a regular worker for the combination,) but leave the gate shut and do not put the padlock back on. The last person leaving the site at the end of the day should ensure the gate is shut and padlocked. If anyone is unsure where the entrance is, please call the Volunteer Coordinator Ted Lintott on (01444) 414 413 and he will give you directions. We need a minimum of 3 workers on any day due to Health and Safety. When we have a big cement mix day we could need up to 7/8 people but Ted will be in touch later regarding these dates as it will not be until the wall is demolished. We would like it if you could, to give Ted your possible work days up to 12 June 2011 at this time and as soon as possible. You can call Ted, (leave a message on his answerphone,) or email him at tedl@talktalk.net. We have high-visibility jackets. If you have steel toecap boots/shoes please wear them. If you have a hard hat and/or working gloves, please bring them. We have tea/coffee making facilities onsite. If you can donate any tea bags/coffee/sugar it would help. We have milk on site. Bring your own lunch. We are working on plans to do some work next Winter on, we hope, Irongate lock, at Sheffield Park. So we then would be busy all year. There is also a Volunteers Needed poster, containing more information and contact details. |
