Don't miss out on the 2009 Spring term's Adult Education courses at The Friends Centre in Ivory Place [map] Brighton. Places are still available on a number of different courses, starting mid January 2009. Here is one example:
French Conversation runs for 10 weeks from 15 January 2009 (Thursdays from 6pm to 8pm). This course is for adults who have attained the equivalent of French GCSE level. There will be opportunities to increase your confidence and fluency in French through discussion of popular topics and themes, including the use of film and songs.
The course is taught by Muriel Jacquinet who has lived in Brighton for ten years. Muriel holds a PGCE (for adult education), which included a dissertation on the role of songs in the language class.
Experienced as a teacher of her native language, Muriel is also well known in Brighton and Hove as a 'chanteuse' and flautist. She began singing and playing the flute during her childhood. She receiving advanced training at the Conservatoire de Paris where she specialised in classical flute (under Pierre Paubon & Roger Bourdin) and singing. She is now an experienced performer, regularly working in orchestral and chamber music settings.
Language study through extracts from French films (e.g. Jean de Florette) and song lyrics (Edith Piaf, Charles Trenet, Serge Gainsbourg etc…) Discussions will develop vocabulary, grammar and pronunciation.
The course costs £72.00 (concessions £43.20) for ten weeks, and takes place on Thursdays 18:00-20:00. This works out as £3.10 (£2.16 concessions) per hour's tuition.

Adult Education provides good opportunities for meeting people with similar interests and still constitutes very good value. One hour's tuition at The Friends Centre often costs less than a 90 second ride on Brighton Pier.
