The Regency Period in British history has now begun. King George III is no longer capable of carrying out his duties as king, so his son (George Prince of Wales) has now been made Prince Regent, Britain's new ruler.
It is now very important for the Prince Regent to face up to his new responsibilities as head of the Church of England and the monarch responsible for recalling Parliament. He will be required to deal with the Luddite riots, which are affecting many areas of our industrial heartland. Workers have been smashing up new machinery because they say that it is costing them jobs and pay. While the Prince may have enjoyed great wealth, there is a great deal of poverty and dissatisfaction in the land. We cannot risk civil war. We must at all costs face up to the challenge mounted by the French Emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte, who now has his eye on Moscow.
