Lack
of legible latent fingerprints doesn’t
conclusively point to murder and someone wiping the shotgun,
it’s
more relevant to possible mishandling of evidence.

Sean
O’ Donnell – Media Relations Officer for the
Seattle Police Department - In
response to why no legible fingerprints were found on the shotgun
- "I
think its clear that anyone who is familiar with firearms and there
use would know that as they hold a weapon that frequently that weapon
will move in their hand. Additionally when that weapon is discharged
that causes a jerking motion which causes the hands to move over
the surface of the weapon. And all of those factors could cause any
fingerprints that may have been left on the weapon to be unusable."(Unsolved
Mysteries)
Tom Grant - "I would agree...if the shotgun had never been touched
until the moment it was fired into Cobain's mouth."

Above
is an excerpt taken from the crime scene evidence log. Both
the shotgun and nylon shotgun case are
booked under one item; the shotgun was transported in its
case - wrong procedure.
Not
only that but the request to have the firearm fingerprinted wasn't
submitted until one month after the incident.

Homocide
Major Investigation Summary; "There
were marks on Cobains hands consistent with the firing of this
weapon"
|
|
|
|
This
statement is a complete fabrication. In Febuary of 1997 when
questioned about this in P.O.V magazine Sgt. Cameron admitted
it was a falsity, "It must have been added by some
rookie".
It's feasible the statement may have been inserted into the
report to help solidify the idea that Kurt had fired the weapon
due to either an unwillingness to investigate further or actual
corruption.
In reference to whether a parrafin test or any other
forensic exam had been
done to
indicate
whether
Kurt
had shot a gun before his death. Hartshorne; although restricted
by law to disclose such information he offered, "that
test isn't always reliable" - WKKC? p.161 - A possible
inference that the test was performed and was negative.
More to come...
