The sitting room has wonderful old world charm - the beamed ceiling, the traditional Derbyshire gritstone fireplace and stone flagged floors all create an atmosphere of gentle country life. This is where you relax with a glass of wine in the comfortable sofas in front of a roaring log fire. TV, video, radio/CD, telephone and a selection of books and games are all provided.
Dine in style in the large elegant dining room furnished with period oak furniture. Another Derbyshire gritstone fireplace has a cast-iron living flame gas fire to give those dinner parties that additional cosy feel.
Mullions has three charming bedrooms: two with king sized beds, the third with twin beds. Each bedroom has co-ordinated fabrics and furnishings with exposed beams and low stone window seats from where you can fully appreciate the outstanding location of Mullions.
The fitted kitchen is fully equipped and has an attractive pine breakfast area. It has a gas hob, electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge. A washing machine, tumble dryer and deepfreeze are in a separate utility area. Mullions has fully controllable heating.
History of Mullions
The original house was built in about 1620 from local limestone with gritstone mullions, quoins and roof. It was much smaller than today: the west end was a coach house and an adjacent stone barn was a stable.
Mullions has been home to some long-established Derbyshire family names and we know several local folk who were born here. It was once the home to a branch of the Eyre family - the name from whom Charlotte Bronte took inspiration in her novel 'Jane Eyre.' In more recent years, one of the Sidebottom brothers from a large farming dynasty lived here.
The house was substantially renovated in the 1990's to provide a most elegant and inviting country house. No expense was spared to recreate an age of gracious living. The present owner acquired Mullions in 2002: he is a British gentleman resident in California who wanted a country home for his visits back to England. Understandably, he fell in love with Mullions.
