1999
Welcome
to 1999 browsers of The Magic Cat.
The year has begun with excitement here in the Dr. Brown camp. It sees
the release of a DIGITALLY RECORDED DR BROWN CD! Entitled INSIDE
it has been recorded with the current Dr Brown line-up and special
guest NICK (BEVIS FROND) SALOMAN on electric sitar and dulcimer.
It will be released on our own Beard record label and distributed by
Delerium (www.delerium.co.uk). It was recorded at a top London
studio, but we can't tell you where! Limited edition promotional copies
will be available from us for £10 (inc. Post). See the merchandise
page for more details. Other news saw us recording a live show for
channel 51 cable TV in the East Midlands. Many thanks to all involved.
In his capacity as member of Stormbringer Promotions, Andy (along
with Roly and Chris Woods) organised one of the events of last summer,
Music In The Square, Portsmouth. Over 4000 people saw Zion
Train headline this free event, and Dr Brown weren't bad
either! All this and he finds time to play in Dr Brown, design
this website and make virtual reality maps. Is there no beginning to
his talents? Incidentally, Music In The Square is definitely
going ahead this year on 17/18th July (two whole days!), with both Rhythmites
and Kangaroo Moon provisionally playing. Many thanks to all those
that have kept the faith and supported us at the festivals of '98. See
you there in '99.
All the best,
Kev.

1998
We
would like to wish a prosperous and happy 1998 to all our browsers.
1997 was a particularly busy year for myself. As well as welcoming a
new daughter into the world (hello Zoe) I managed to pack in 10 festivals
(including Portsmouth's own Music In The Square) during the year,
playing not only with Dr Brown, but guesting with Cosmic Voyage.
Dr Brown seem to go
from strength to strength. Last year we welcomed back Steff on guitar
and long term mate and drummer Rick . They have joined my ex-Heliotrope
buddies Alan (bass and gnome impressions), Pete (big-bird, vocals and
percussion) and Grant (guitar, hair, beer and wonderfull band New Years
Eve parties at his house). The band also now features a keyboard section
of Andy and Jason and occasional percussion talents from Will, Stu and
Rich. So basically an eight-eleven piece band! I can honestly say I
am happier with the set up now than I have been for many years.
This year shows no sign of
slowing down. The Dr Frond improv. LP with Nick "Bevis" Saloman
should be out around March on Delerium. There are advancing plans
for studio recordings . Two summer festivals are already confirmed (check
out the line up for Music In The Square!). It is only the second
week in January! Perhaps we will meet you out there somewhere.....
Regards,
Kev
