NEO
Various Artists - Now What Kind Of Music Do You Call That? Volume 01
NEO 001
Our good friends and saviours of Music In The Square, Timeshard have formed their own record label NEO. On this, their first release they have taken ten original tracks of experimental ambient (ish) drum and bass from the electronic underground. Highlights include the finely cut rhythms of A.K.A Alias with "titled", the psycho activated Cosmic Voyage's visit to the "acid radio" and let's not forget the shifting rhythms of Timeshard's "forget". Don't be fooled, this is not the attacking trance that is the 'Shards live performance, but something altogether more otherworldly. Electronic meditation for the new millennium, recommended for free minds. A new Timeshard CD, featuring vocalist Seraina is to be expected soon on NEO.

Magic Eye
Over the last couple of months, those very nice people at Magic Eye have sent me a clutch of new releases. I apologise for taking a while to review, but Dr Brown have been busy this summer.
Magic Eye, probably best known for its Magic Mushroom Band / Astralasia connections are branching out into more trance / drum and bass areas. This can be witnessed by a couple of compilations they have just released.
VISITATION II (MCV CD 21) shows their trance excersions, with standout tracks by Astralasia, Black Hole and Mushroom.
Galaxy Tribe (MEY CD 20) features predominantly drum and bass with cool tunes from Children Of Dub and UVX amongst others. Many artists featured have also released their own CDs and 12". My own favourites are Black Hole's 'A Touch Of The Carpenters' 12" (EYE T33) which is dark trance (I guess), the Astralasia 'Alien Love Song' CD single (EYE CD 27) and Children Of Dub's 'ESP' CD (MEY CD 19).
The more traditional end of psychedelia is still covered with releases from Moonboot Oz 'Psychedelic Cafe' (ARL CD 1) who are acoustic music in a Tyranosaurus Rex vain and Another Green World 'Invisible Landscape' (MEY CD 16) who have a Circus / Gong type feel, much like their previous band The Thunderdogs.
Altogether Magic Eye are an interesting label who are not frightened to embrace new areas of psych. Check them out!
