| DR BROWN were formed ten years ago by vocalist Kev Ellis. In this time
the band have released a highly successful five CD's and three LP's and
numerous singles and tracks on compilations. The band are probably best
known for their frequent appearances at Summer Festivals (some legal, some
not) and on stage nudity. Numerous European tours have taken place, the
largest of which have been in Italy, where the bands albums have reached
the top ten of the Indy charts.
In 1995 the band split up ("after one too many line up changes"). Kev spent an enjoyable year deputising as vocalist for Leicester Dub-merchants HELIOTROPE, who toured the UK extensively and released a tape, "Rolling Over Albion" When Heliotrope went their separate ways in early 1997, Kev reformed DR BROWN together with other ex-Tropers Grant (Guitar), Al (Bass), Pete (vocals) and Andy (Keyboards). Old Dr Browners Rick (Drums) and Steff (Guitar) and new boy Jason (Keyboards) completed the line-up. The whole thing was summed up by Stormbringer Promotions supremo Roly Woods : "Kev is the John Mayal of the psychedelic scene. You are hard pushed to find a band in this field who have not been directly affected by Dr Brown." The band spent a very successful summer playing a host of festivals to widespread critical acclaim. During this time a new sound and set has been developed and the band intend to record and release these tunes on a new CD in 1998. Somehow the soul has returned to Dr Brown. The band are again playing with renewed enthusiasm and vigour. The most common observation is that the band (particularly Kev) seem to be enjoying themselves and laughing so much more at gigs. It is this enjoyment which has infected their recent audiences so immensly and caused scenes of unbridled dancing and joy that have not been witnessed since the days of Dave Shah. Cpt. Von Trippenhoff.
