| Music In The Square returns
A free day-long open-air music festival is to be staged in the heart of Portsmouth this summer. For the second year, Portsmouth City Council is sponsoring Music in the Square. Stormbringer Promotions, the co-organizers of the 12-hour event promise that it will be bigger and better than before. It will be held in Portsmouth's Guildhall Square from 11am to 11 pm on Saturday July 18. Seven of the eight British bands which will appear have already have been booked. They include Zion Train, a one world dub band from London; Somerset based ambient psychedelic band Ozric Tentacles, this will be their first appearance in England after completion of a major American tour; roots reggae band Rhythmites from Bristol; and punk-folk band Tofu Love Frogs, whose musicians also come from London. Helping to complete the line-up will be Celtic rock band Seven Little Sisters and two Portsmouth groups - Dr Brown and rock band Zuffle. Roly Woods of Stormbringer Promotions, the event co-organiser, said: "We've got some great bands and we can promise the biggest and best outdoor lighting system which Portsmouth has seen. "It will be the first time that Zion Train, Ozric Tentacles, Rhythmites and Tofu Love Frogs have appeared together. They could all headline alternative festivals in Britain" Cllr Mark Hancock, who chairs the city's leisure committee, said: "This event is part of our efforts to provide music to suit all tastes and ages. I've no doubt it will be a big hit." Gales Ales will run a pay bar, and there will also be a range of refreshments, including multi-cultural food. Stormbringer Promotions will not be receiving any payment for the organization of the event. Contact: Mark Wingham
