ENTENDRE

Entendre are a six piece Folk-Rock band, operating in Hampshire. Although all young, (15-16) they have been together for three years, and in that time have carefully crafted a number of original and traditional songs. Our material can be divided into two groups; the first showing the traditional aspect, with ballads, and songs of old England, performed in a modern, innovative way. The second side is the self penned songs, bringing the repertoire up to date, and adding a touch of modem vitality to the set. The two combine, producing a unique sound; the songs vary so that one moment you will be dancing, and the next finding yourself listening intensely to the lyrics - yet never letting you be less that entranced. Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and the Albion Band are three huge influences, yet there are also others from Blues right up to modern rock.

Entendre

David Newey - (Guitars, Vocals) Dave is the songwriter, and researcher in the band. He is just as happy taking the vocals on some of the original compositions, or bringing up the rock guitar on the traditional ballads.

Chris Wood - (Drums, Percussion) The drummer and percussionist in the band, he does not just provide a beat, but uses complex rhythms to twist and tangle the song around when needed, yet using simplicity to it's whole if more suited.

Rick Turner - (Bass Guitar) Employing solid bass lines in our dance songs, through to sympathetic licks in our more intimate songs, Rick will cater for just about anything.

Ben Whyntie - (Guitars) Ben has skill in more than just Guitar, and so uses his knowledge from his experience of other instruments, particularly the drums to provide just the right feeling in the Rhythm guitar.

Tom Whyntie and Alison Welch (Vocals) - Our two vocalists have two very different voices, which work brilliantly on their own, but when combined, provide a sound which can cater for the ballad, where the listener must be persuaded to hear just exactly what is happening, to the almost tribal beats of our modem songs, where the harmonies work perfectly.
