RAMSKYTE

Pioneers of English Square Harmony

Ramskyte first began singing as an ensemble, for a theatrical production of 'The Mysteries' by Tony Harrison.  From this initial collaboration, the four part harmony group Ramskyte were formed, hence their somewhat unusual name!

The collection of songs that Ramskyte are able to offer are extremely varied, and certainly unusual, many having been gleaned from obscure and almost forgotten sources.  This certainly does not detract in any way from their obvious enthusiasm for the material, which they share with discerning audiences in an entertaining and enjoyable fashion.  The arrangement for every song, whilst sensitive, has that characteristic 'wall of sound' approach, which is becoming an unmistakable Ramskyte trade mark!

Their diverse repertoire is as enigmatic as their name, however their creativity does not not stop there!  Recently to some considerable acclaim they have been composing and performing their own material!  Certainly an exciting development to add to their ever growing reputation for fine imaginative robust singing!

"On our June evening the Coach House and probably half the village, echoed with the sound of Ramskyte. The powerful harmonies of these four men sent us all home with ears ringing."
Colin Gordon:
The Hambledon Folk Club.

'Thank you for coming to our festival and for making it the success it was"
J. Packham:
The Island Folk Association

'Thanks to Ramskyte the Willows Folk Club at Arundel had a thoroughly delightful Christmas party with bright and harmonious carols, many of them new to us. Although all the songs were obviously well rehearsed, the presentation was as fresh and bright as though it was a 'first'. We all warmed to the friendly enthusiasm and look forward to seeing and hearing Ramskyte again."
Bob Walker
The Willows Folk Club, Arundel.

"I look forward to having the chance to listen to your next tape."
Jim Lloyd, Folk On 2.

John Bartlett
John is a relative newcomer to the Hampshire folk scene, however as a member of Victory Morris he has been singing in the local Portsmouth area for a number of years. Recently, with some success, he has taken to song writing.
Brian Ingham
What Brian doesn't know about folk song isn't worth knowing!  He has sung at many major festivals including Sidmouth.  A wonderful mellow voice that 'smokes the palate like an old friend!'  A founder member of 'The Portsmouth Shanty Men' his knowledge of the songs of the sea is legendary.
Peter Luscombe
If there is a high note to be found, then Peter is the master of 'the lost chord!'. A fine singer who provides much of the top harmony.  Originally from the West Country he brings with him a love of the sea, and an appreciation of rural life! Pete also sings with 'The Portsmouth Shanty Men"
John Thornton
With his Doctorate in mathematics John provides the anchor and sobering influence within Ramskyte. His interesting Bass harmony line is always a joy to listen to. It might appear that John keeps his light under a bushel, however he is an accomplished musician, songwriter and singer in his own right.
