Who is the Famous Simon Templar ?,To some people it is George Sanders,Vincent Price,Roger Moore,Louis Haywood, Hugh Sinclair ,Ian Ogilvy or even Val Kilmer Plus many others who have played the part of Templar.But to really find out about this mystery man you have to read the Leslie Charteris books.If we are to go on the Leslie Charteris description of Simon Templar then Roger Moore would fit the part ,because in his books Templar is about 6ft 2in tall,blue eyes , between 12 and 13 stone in weight with his hair brushed back and a nice tan and Smokes a lot .Sounds a bit like Roger Moore to me.

But that is where the TV Saints likeness ends, because in the early books Templar carried a 6 in bladed knife with a 3 in ivory hilt strapped to his forearm at all times,he also carried a knife lodged in a sheath on the leg.He was also a bit of a gadget man who was fond of his cigarette case that housed a flash and smoke bomb device.

Simon Templar is described as a ruthless latterday Robin Hood who steals from the rich and more ofter than not keeps the money or rewards for himself.also in the books Templar will kill without hesitation and without conscience.Sounds like James Bond ?,well when this was put to Leslie Charteris that Templar was like Bond ?,he replied Bond has a licence to kill and Templar did it at his own risk ,plus the Saint enjoyed his adventures whereas with Bond  it was glum and grim in the books.
