Houseboats on Dal Lake, Srinagar

Most travel agents in Delhi, especially in the Pahar Ganj, will try and persuade you to go to Kashmir. Whether it's safe is another matter, the troubles in the area mean that hardly any tourists do go. I spent nearly a week there, staying on a houseboat on Dal Lake, Srinagar. I did not encounter any problems while I was there, but being stopped time after time at military checkpoints, and sometimes searched can be annoying. Pahalgam and Gulmarg were two of the places I visited while I was there, the view towards Sunrise Mountain in Gulmarg was stunning. I hope to return one day, when it's safer.
