FRONT SUSPENSION CLICK ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE

The first job was to mask the paintwork around the front suspension to prevent it getting dented or scratched. Then the wishbones could be fitted. These are the widetrack wishbones.

Dusty and Kevin fitting the wishbones on the passenger side.

One of the front dampers. They have been supplied by Pro-tech and are alloy bodied with adjustment for height and damping. They are fitted with 250lbin springs.

A close up of the lower shock mounting and the damping adjustment dial. Aluminium sleeves will be fitted inside the bush to suit the bolts in the wishbones.

The damper fitted in place. We had to add some shims to fill out the space in the mounting due to the width of mounting on these dampers being slightly narrower than the standard dampers which Caterham usually fit.

The Caterham "big brake" caliper and vented disk. The caliper is made by AP Racing. A quick tip here.......if the brake pads have not already been fitted, fit them now, otherwise you won`t be able to insert the upper brake pad retaining pin due to the location of the cycle wing stay.

And the other side showing the upright. This all comes as one assembly which just needs dropping into place.

And a shot of the completed front suspension.

Once the engine was installed the car was put on its wheels and the suspension torqued. It became apparent that when set at the recommended ride height that there was virtually no upward travel before the suspension hit the bump stops. To remedy the situation a set of longer top mounts were ordered.

Here the modified damper is now in place. The longer top mount has remedied the situation although I have retained the original mounts and may experiemtn with spring lengths. We have yet to check how far the suspension will compress before the sump hits the ground.
