The church was delighted to receive a grant of £25.000 from SITA to put towards the restoration of our Bierhouse and reconstruction of the churchyard wall. The picture here shows the representative from SITA meeting with Steve to present the cheque. The work on the bierhouse is expected to begin during January 2005 and will take a long while to complete. |
At
a recent public meeting in the village hall the Church agreed
to do all it could to effect the restoration of this mid-19th
Century bier house (old mortuary). A letter was sent to every
house in the village letting them know of our plans. Please contact
the Rector for any further information. At the recent harvest celebrations, Thurlaston Church co-ordinated a food parcel collection for Eastern Europe. Between the School, Coffee Club, Carnival Committee, Tots R Us, the Playgroup and the Church, sixty six boxes were collected. The boxes contained staple food stuffs such as rice and flour and a special treat of chocolate biscuits.
Mother's Union Banner
In July a new Mother's Union banner was dedicated
by the Reverend Stephen Davies. The Mother's Union in Thurlaston
consists of a small but enthusiastic group who meet monthly. The
new banner is now located in the Church.
New Winding Mechanism
The new winding mechanism for the Church clock has now been installed. The new system is fully automatic and the original clock mechanism has been retained. We received donations from Croft Quarry and Thurlaston Parish Council and through these, together with other fund-raising events, we reached our goal. The bell ringers will be glad to be relieved of the job of winding the clock every week.
