About Thurlaston

Although the village of Thurlaston has only around 600 inhabitants it is well served by two public houses, a post office stores, a village hall and a market garden/nursery. The excellent reputation of the village Church of England (Aided) primary school means that it is usually oversubscribed.

Possibly because of the size and rural nature of Thurlaston there is a wide sense of community spirit throughout. There are several social groups which meet regularly within the village including Mother's Union; coffee club; TNT (Thurlaston New Teenagers); play school and youth clubs. There is also a Sunday league football team. The village has an impressive annual carnival in June.

At present the church is applying for grants to restore an old mortuary in the churchyard not only as a historical building but also to use as an exhibition of past and present life in Thurlaston.

The village is served by several bus companies which gives an infrequent but regular bus service to Leicester, Hinckley and Beaumont Leas. There are two Leisure Centres in the area, one of which has an excellent swimming pool. Thurlaston is within easy access of the M1 and M69 motorways.
