GB3ANG

VHF Beacons for Amateur Radio

News: All systems are normal! New 144MHz beacon on soak test - operational soon

Introduction

GB3ANG is currently active on four bands; 70, 144, 432 and 1296MHz. The beacons are located at the NTL transmitter site at Angus in Scotland, IO86MN.

Pictured here are the all important antennas for the beacons. Seen, from top to bottom of the mast, 70, 144, 432 and 1296Mhz.

Although the mast is not high, the site itself is xxx metres above sea level, with an excellent take off, so the beacons can be heard over great distances. You can also imagine the gales that lash the site from time to time, so a robust installation has proved essential.

Reception Reports

We really appreciate reception reports of the beacon. Quite apart from any scientific interest, it's just good to know that someone, somewhere is listening to the beacon. We will post reports of particular interest (unusual propagation, DX) on the site here.
